Headed Back to School?

Don’t Forget to Pack Kindness!

It’s that time again. School bells are ringing. Going back to school means a fresh new start! While you’re shopping for new spiral-bound notebooks and mechanical pencils don’t forget to stock up on some important We Wave “staples” that can move you to the head of the class. Here are five ways to make this school year awesome!

1.Befriend the new kid(s)

Make a point of introducing yourself to newcomers to your class. Answer their questions and discover their interests to find out what you have in common. Then connect them with other like-minded classmates.

2. Volunteer

Find a way to contribute to your school or classroom. Offer to help your teacher, tutor a younger student, or assist a student with special needs. There are lots of ways that you can make a difference.

3. Encourage

Whether they’re in the classroom or on the field or court, you don’t have to have pompoms to cheer on your fellow students. Especially if you know someone is struggling with their classwork or just having a tough time, a word or gesture of acknowledgement can make their day.

4. Perform Random Acts of Kindness

Keep an eye out for small (or large) opportunities to show others that you care. Open doors for a classmate whose arms are full, share you lunch with a friend who forgot theirs, or pick up trash on campus.

5. Smile & Wave

When arriving and leaving campus or while hanging classes throughout the day, don’t forget to look up from your mobile phone and smile and wave at everyone you meet. Making eye contact and sharing a simple greeting just feels good. Plus, your positive attitude is contagious! (Want to really make an impact on your campus? Aside from making you feel good, being kind has some very tangible effects! In fact, according to Christina Hinton of Harvard Graduate School of Education kindness can be positively associated with a heightened motivation for their studies and as a result obtaining higher GPA’s. So when it comes to spreading the We Wave vibe at school, kindness really does count in more ways than one!
